Do you have a self-hosted WordPress blog, website, or online eCommerce store? If so, you must understand different technical support and site maintenance options.

Whether you’re new to WordPress or have been using it for years, there are many reasons to consider a WordPress Care Plan. While WordPress hosting companies offer their own forms of care plans for those who host their sites with them, there are plenty of third parties out there.

Here are some tips on how to choose the best WordPress care plan for you:

Consider Your Needs

The first thing to remember is that all WordPress Care Plans aren’t one size fits all. A plan that works perfectly for a blogger might not be suitable for a business owner or vice versa.

For example, an entry level WordPress Care plan may simply manage your updates whilst a premium WordPress Care plan will include things such as WooCommerce updates, vulnerability patching, Web Application Firewall setup and monitoring, database optimisation plus much more!

After determining what kind of site you have and your needs, you can begin the research. Choose a plan that closely matches your business needs.

Know What You’re Getting Into

Before you sign up for any WordPress Care plan, make sure you know what their terms are. What does WordPress support entail? What kind of security measures do they offer? Does it include both on-site and off-site backups or just one or the other?

These are some of the most important questions you should be asking. Arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible before you commit to anything.

Find Out About On-Boarding Processes

Once again, this step will depend entirely on which type of WordPress Care plan provider you select. Some companies may require an initial phone consultation, while others might get a team to begin working on your site right away.

Besides, other providers require that you install certain plugins or templates before they get started, while others will take care of everything for you automatically.

The more you know about this initial process, the better prepared you’ll be once it’s time to start working with a provider.

Expectations and Timely Response

Expectations are the most important factor when choosing your WordPress care plan. Are you looking for the bare minimum of support, or do you need full-on round-the-clock coverage?

You should also know how quickly your requests will be addressed. Will it take days to get a response or less than an hour? Knowing these details will give you peace of mind when something unexpected happens to your site.

How Active Is Your Site?

Another important factor to consider when choosing a care plan is how frequently content updates are created and published.

If your site is often updated throughout the day with several new posts every hour, you’ll need a plan that includes frequent backups (more than daily) in order to prevent any data loss.

If your site is relatively new and doesn’t see a lot of activity, you can get away with less frequent backups. However, keep in mind that even if your site only has five posts on it right now, they may accumulate quickly as your business grows.

Does Your WordPress Care Plan Provider Offer Regular Updates?

WordPress and the associated theme and plugins frequently receive feature, security, and performance-related updates. These updates need to be attended to regularly, especially those that are security-related.

Some care plan providers handle all updates for you automatically, while others have a process in place where they contact you before an update is downloaded and installed. At the very least, expect them to occasionally check in to see if there are any updates that need to be made.

Website Size

This varies from one site owner to another. Keep in mind that larger websites require more attention than smaller ones due to their increased complexity. A highly trafficked web property will have a much different set of needs than a small personal site.

If your site is starting to feel unmanageable, it’s time to upgrade to a plan that can better cater to your needs.
